As a single guy who is not opposed to meeting someone special, I take occasional forays onto dating apps. As a man of faith, app algorithms often suggest a woman of faith as a potential match. Quite often, these women will say they are looking for a man who loves Jesus. When I see that I often respond with something along the lines of, “I’m curious, who is Jesus to you?”

In a world that is all about power, where do you learn to believe in love?
As I read the Bible, the unifying theme that runs from front to back involves humanity struggling with God. People want to live by power while God insists that love is the only way. So as God comes to people, there is an ongoing invitation to embrace the way of love. In this framework, the story appears to conclude on Good Friday with power defeating love. But then comes Easter and love lives on.
